A BRIEF TEAM HISTORY
While New Generations is a 3-year-old organization, our team has been serving together for more than 16 years. Previously, our team was the International Church Planting division of Cityteam Ministries. The story of God’s glory is that since March 2005, the Lord has used this team and the DMM* process to catalyze 84,633 new churches, with 1,934,547 new Christ followers. During the last 16 years, our team has witnessed God launch 146 DMMs. And while we have seen exponential growth in the last few years, we recognize we are standing on the shoulders of those who came before us.
We define a Disciple Making Movement (DMM) as at least 100 new churches that have multiplied to the fourth generation or beyond.
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
As I reflect on the year just ended, my thoughts go to the incredible Team God has assembled. I find three consistent qualities among this group, and I think it’s valuable to point out how they exhibit themselves in the context of New Generations. Here are three aspects:
The Creativity of the Team
When Covid hit, we were concerned that isolation and distraction would severely hamper our church planting efforts. We were pleasantly surprised at how our coaches and trainers pivoted to the use of Zoom, Signal, and WhatsApp to keep the training and coaching going. The shocking result was that, despite all the hindrances of Covid, the Lord still raised up 8,769 new churches with over 157,000 new disciples in 2020! That is creativity.
The Commitment of the Team
While the church-planting results during Covid have been surprisingly good, the price has been extraordinarily high. So far, we have lost over 100 of our field workers. Many of these contracted the disease while putting themselves in harm’s way to deliver food to people starving during lockdowns. That is commitment.
The Character of the Team
Two stories of godly character stand out. First, a young church-planting couple with a 10-day-old baby was starting underground churches in a highly restrictive country. A midnight raid with 40 armed police put them in jail, which could easily lead to a death sentence. By virtue of a minor miracle, the mother gained access to a phone and called us. She said they wanted everyone to pray for their release but to be encouraged because God was bringing many souls into the Kingdom in the prison!
The second story involves one of our key leaders being involved in a car accident that totaled his car and injured his back. When I called to see how he was doing, he said he was very grateful this had happened. I was shocked and asked, “why?” His response was that God used his car to shield a group of people at the public transportation pickup spot. If he had not been there, many would have died and gone to a Christless eternity, and he would rather be injured than see that happen. That is true godly character.
I am deeply grateful for the privilege of walking alongside this incredible Kingdom team and believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit and the creativity, commitment, and character of this team, our best days are still ahead!
Privileged to partner with you,
President, New Generations
What we have seen God do in the last 3 years
In the summer of 2018, our team launched a new organization focused on Disciple Making Movements. Since that time, we have engaged 229 new people groups, seen God raise up 488,319 new Christ Followers (157,979 from Muslim backgrounds) within 27,684 new churches, and started 35 new Disciple Making Movements. These past three years have been packed with exciting ministry, all thanks to God’s faithfulness and provision.
As we consider the culmination of the last three years of DMM with the included Cityteam partnership reaching back to 2005, the fruit of this discipling approach excites us. We are looking forward to how God moves in years to come!
It’s hard to look back on the last three years without mentioning the realities of Covid-19. However, it’s important to remember that here at New Generations, we believe there is a Kingdom opportunity in every crisis, and meeting needs is part of being disciples as well as making disciples. With that as our premise, the pandemic of 2020 was no exception. When Covid hit in early 2020, it was immediately clear the impact would be big, wide, and long. In response, we gave all Field Leaders the freedom to use their people and their money to meet the needs around them in whatever ways they saw fit.
What God did through the creativity of our Regional Leaders, their teams, and partners continues to astound us. To read more of the highlights of their response to Covid and the challenges they faced in each region please visit https://newgenerations.org/covid/.
More 3-Year Updates
New Generations launched as a new organization focused on Disciple Making Movements in the summer of 2018. Here’s a summary of what we have witnessed God do through the help of friends like you:
Jesus said, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing” (Jn 15:5). In recognition of this reality, we put a lot of time and resources into mobilizing and training intercessors. By God’s grace, we now have a prayer base around the world that includes over 100,000 dedicated intercessors!
LEADERSHIP TRAINING & RESOURCES
While we are consistently doing leadership training and coaching around the world, during our largest event in the last three years, we filled a stadium in West Africa to train over 5,000 leaders involved in those movements. We have also released the book, “The Kingdom Unleashed” and written multiple articles on Disciple Making Movements.
Our teams have distributed 14,000 printed bibles and 13,500 audio bibles in 55 languages.
HELPING HURTING PEOPLE
At New Generations, we believe that for the gospel to be “good news” to hurting people, it must be something they experience, not just hear. So, we have been working hard to minister to people suffering from:
- Droughts & Floods
- Hurricanes & Cyclones
- Locust Infestations
- Persecution & Famine
- And Covid-19
HELPING NEGLECTED PEOPLE
We do not provide clean water, start schools, or help people feed themselves so that they’ll come to Jesus. We do it because we have come to Jesus! We have found that the doors of communities swing open when love knocks. And because of this, the journey starts where we want it to finish – with seekers becoming followers who love their neighbor as a lifestyle, not a program.
We’ve helped a wide range of people providing a future and hope through:
- Schools and Education
- Medical Camps and Clinics
- Distributing Eye Glasses
- Delivering Food and Water
- Establishing a Seed Bank
- Setting Up New Businesses
- Providing Micro-loans
We are bringing in qualified outside professionals to do an external audit to confirm the quantitative outcomes within movements.
We have launched what we believe is the first-ever quality assessment with movements. The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate the spiritual DNA expressed in lifestyles of prayer, obedience, replication, service, etc. and see how well it is transferring from one generation to another.
Both of these will be a multi-year initiatives that will provide us with the ‘actionable intelligence’ necessary to sustain and improve movements well into the future.
