WE WORK WITH GOD TO LAUNCH DISCIPLE MAKING MOVEMENTS IN EAST AFRICA

Showing practical love in ways that lead to movements

The story of God’s glory is that since March 2005, the Lord has used the Disciple Making Movement (DMM) process in East Africa to catalyze 24,361 new churches with 406,518 new disciples—many from places where the gospel had not sprouted let alone spread for over a century. However, ‘movements’ of churches planting churches are our main measure of success. We define a ‘movement’ as at least 100 new churches that have multiplied to the fourth generation or beyond. Currently, we are tracking 68 of these movements in East Africa.

LAUNCHING MOVEMENTS THAT LAUNCH MOVEMENTS

New Generations—the name says it all. Our passion is to mobilize disciples that make disciples, resulting in churches that plant churches. Like Jesus’ parable of the seed that fell on good soil, each individual seed has the power to create countless future generations of new seeds.

Our ministry compass points to the pioneer places, where the Gospel has never been or has never flourished. Among these unengaged and unreached peoples, our mission is simple: ‘We work with God to launch Disciple Making Movements’

DISCOVER THE PROCESS

The results have been incredible so far. And yet, the real story is not found in the number of people turning to Jesus today, but in the implications for world missions in the days to come. Watching God work through Disciple Making Movements has left us in awe of what He’s capable of doing in the present and waiting in great anticipation for what He will do in the future.

How it Works

EAST AFRICA REGIONAL DIRECTOR – AILA TASSE

Aila Tasse is the East Africa Regional Director for New Generations. Aila founded Lifeway Mission in 1994. Lifeway works among unreached people groups in Northern Kenya, Southern Ethiopia, and Somalia making Disciples and planting Churches. Since 2003, Aila has been a part of the Horn Africa Mission, which works in partnership with Lifeway, and has launched a Movement that has seen over 6,000 Churches planted and seen more than 135,000 people turn to Christ.

As Regional Director for New Generations, Aila travels around the world doing DMM training, mentoring, and coaching church planters with an emphasis in the seven countries of East Africa, stretching from Sudan to Tanzania, with the goal of helping them see similar results in their own context.

Above all, Aila has a heart for meeting practical needs in such a way that it leads to Disciple Making Movements. You will regularly find him serving the needs of those in most desperate need whether it be through water projects, distributing food during a famine, or helping those suffering in a disaster.

CARING FOR THE PERSECUTED

Persecution of Christ followers is a consistent reality we face in our world. We as the Church are honored to walk alongside and care for those who are facing it directly. We praise God for continued courage in the midst of persecution. By donating toward our Emergency Assistance fund, you can directly support our brothers and sisters who are in need of care.

GIVE

Catalyst Camp

As part of Aila’s passion for coaching, training, and mentoring leaders, he hosts a week-long intensive for DMM practitioners every year. This event, called Catalyst Camp, is held the second week in June and is focused on hands-on learning from regional case studies. Watch the video below for a few more details about the event.

Extensive Drought – Extreme Hunger

Once again, the people of Northern Kenya are experiencing chronic hunger due to a severe drought.

Recurring droughts make it difficult for farmers and herders to produce crops and feed livestock. Children are affected most. New Generation’s staff in the region say tens of thousands of children in Northern Kenya are at risk as they struggle to get enough to eat. If they survive, their future could be drastically impacted.

This crisis not only creates large‐scale suffering, it has an impact on what has been an amazing movement of God. East Africa is a region where we’ve seen 7,122 churches planted over the last 14 years, some to the 11th generation!

When these droughts happen, people begin moving away from their homes in order to find food and water to survive. This changes the fabric of community life and breaks down the church planting momentum that has already taken place. People end up in famine camps or migrating to new areas in the hopes of survival.

We want to serve those in need, feed the hungry, and help families stay together. This not only saves lives, it maintains the church planting momentum in the region. Our goals are to provide $120,00 for emergency relief and see 120 new churches with 3600 new believers in 2019!

Help Us Meet this Incredible Need!

Save Lives – In this life and death situation, the love of God demands a response with emergency food, water and restocking animals.

Preserve church planting momentum – The affected communities need both humanitarian help and spiritual strength in this time of crisis. Providing the emergency supplies in the communities where our churches are planted will enable families to survive and church groups to stay together and continue to multiply.

Lay the foundation for future church planting – Providing care in times of crisis lays the foundation for future relationships. And these relationships can open doors to bring the gospel to communities where the church planters so far have not been welcome and the gospel has not been wanted. Through your support of New Generations, we can empower churches to become a life-saving team for others who are displaced and needy.

How God has moved in the past and our hope for the future

Unfortunately, drought and famine are common in East Africa. In fact, in 2011, New Generations and our partners provided similar resources of food, water, and medical aid for 20,000 people. During this same initiative, we also saw God raise up 4500 new believers in 600 new churches that reproduced to the fifth generation! We remain convinced that God can do something similar through this initiative.

This project will have incredible outcomes for the Kingdom of God!

  1. Life-saving resources will be provided to 1500 families identified as most affected by the drought within our church planting sites in Northern Kenya.
  2. When people do not have to wander looking for food and water, the communities will be stabilized and the momentum of our current church planting will continue.
  3. Those who do not know Jesus will see that the Good News is something that you can feel as well as hear. This will open up wonderful new opportunities.
  4. There will be a clear contrast between the warm love of God and the cold indifference of Islam that turns away from hurting people.
  5. New believers will learn that loving their neighbor is a fundamental part of following Jesus.
