On Friday, March 28, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar, leaving widespread destruction and thousands of people in urgent need.
Myanmar, which was already suffering from a prolonged civil conflict, now faces severe challenges as relief efforts struggle to reach those most affected.

Immediate Crisis
The earthquake’s epicenter near Mandalay is located close to active combat zones. This has complicated relief efforts.
Thousands are without basic necessities like clean water, food, and shelter. Infrastructure, already fragile due to ongoing civil war, has been severely damaged, and many communities remain isolated.
Why Myanmar Matters
- Population: 54.4 million people
- Evangelical Christians: 4.9% (but nearly all among ethnic minorities)
- Muslims: 4%
- Unreached People Groups: 53 groups remain with little or no access to the Gospel
Myanmar is a nation with significant spiritual and humanitarian needs especially among the Buddhist majority, making this crisis even more urgent.
Our Response
New Generations is uniquely positioned to respond swiftly and effectively.
Working directly through indigenous church leaders and a team of trained church planters, we’ve already mobilized immediate aid:
- Clean Water: $3,000 has been sent to provide urgent access to safe drinking water.
- Food and Shelter: We are preparing to deliver critical supplies including basic food rations, tarps for temporary shelter, mosquito nets, and water pumps.
Unlike large NGOs, New Generations operates directly through trusted local leaders who deeply understand their communities.

Since our local partners live there, they are already active in delivering aid. As citizens, they are able to deliver aid effectively and responsibly, even in areas inaccessible to other organizations.

Beyond Immediate Relief: Kingdom Impact
Our local leaders, trained in the Disciple Making Movements strategy, see this crisis as an opportunity to share the love and hope of Jesus in practical ways and possibly leading to more Kingdom advance.
Our original partners in country came to us to learn about Disciple Making Movements to reach their goal of planting 200 churches among Buddhists. They hope that despite the many challenges, the Lord will use these sad realities as catalysts to seeing their dream become a reality.
Your gift can fuel this movement of disciple-making even in the darkness of disaster. So please give as God leads below.
Please Pray
As you give, please pray:
- For immediate relief and safety of earthquake victims, especially our partners themselves, their families, colleagues and new disciples.
- That this crisis will lead to meaningful opportunities to accelerate church planting and disciple-making (the thing that will have the most long-term impact).
- For lasting peace and improved political stability in Myanmar.

Our Commitment
At New Generations, honoring a donor’s intent is a high value. In rare cases where donations exceed what is needed, circumstances change, or local conditions prevent program implementation, New Generations will redirect funds to a similar need, to reflect the donor’s intent, as much as possible.
