I was born and raised in a Christian background. My parents were among the church Elders and raised me as a Christian.
I joined school and studied up to standard seven, but then I was unable to proceed with my education after a bandit came and took over all our livestock. Due to this incident, I decided to quit school and go back to the village.
After remaining in the village for two years, I joined secondary school and studied under harsh conditions. God enabled me to finish my secondary education.
Disciple Making Movement (DMM) ENCOUNTER
Before DMM I was just going to church on Sundays, as a normal routine. The pastor was the only one who was preaching. At that time, I didn’t know that I was also supposed to share God’s work. This was seen as the pastor’s role. At that time, we were not making disciples but were focused on filling the church building.
In the year 2018, Faraji (pseudonym) visited my church, and he conducted a training known as “RABBIT PLANTING CHURCH.” The goal of this is to equip church planters with skills they can use to rapidly multiply disciples like a rabbit giving birth to so many bunnies in a shorter period of time.
After attending this training for 3 consecutive days, I discovered so much information on how to become a disciple and conduct church planting. Later, I was also introduced to DMM awareness. At that time, I didn’t understand anything because it was all new to me.
In the year 2019, James (pseudonym) came for a DMM training. I learned more about DMM and began to understand more about how I could make disciples of Christ.
DMM JOURNEY
I returned and prayed that God would provide me with a person of peace. There I met with Anna (pseudonym). She welcomed me, and I had the opportunity to share from the Bible with her. We learned that Discovery Bible Studies (DBS) are so significant because we discover together from the scripture. We were asked accountability questions like, “What have you learned?”, “How will you obey?”, and “Who will you share with?”
At Anna’s home we developed a DBS group and we have been meeting every Thursday. I started with Anna’s family, but then the number of people kept growing.
I then moved to another village where I met Ibrahim (pseudonym). I shared with him about discipleship, and he accepted the teachings. He saw that it is very important for the growth of disciples. We developed a DBS group there in his family.
Ibrahim later moved to another region, where he found a person of peace. Ibrahim taught him about DMM, and he accepted it. They developed a DBS there. As we speak, the DBS that was started has transitioned into a church. The person of peace is now planning to engage another area where God has already provided a person of peace.
There is also another new group that I recently started. This is a DBS group that started 2 months ago. I met Nathan (pseudonym) and shared with him about DMM. He was very interested and willing to learn, so much so that he started his own DBS Group.
As of now, we have five DBSs under five distinct disciple makers.
All these have leaders, and we meet regularly with them. We even visit them during their DBS sessions.
I not only dedicate my time to doing God’s work, but also engage in farming to support both my family and the work of God. It’s a way of balancing the spiritual and practical aspects of life. I grow crops that are consumed daily like onion, kale, and Irish potatoes. I am using my farming project as an access ministry in reaching out both to those who come to buy from me, and also to those who need to learn skills in farming. I have been able to disciple many people from my farming project and many have become God’s disciples.
