East Africa Famine

Stories of Transformation

TODAY’S CRISIS IN EAST AFRICA

“The drought in Northern Kenya has caused the worst food crisis in living memory and has already killed many people and animals,” reports our East Africa Regional Coordinator.

Current Realities:
• 150,000 people are desperate for food and water.
• Tens of thousands of children are at risk of malnutrition.
• Livestock are dying and crops have been devastated.

Starvation grips Northern Kenya. Food and water are desperately needed. Additional items like cooking oil and medicine are also needed. The delay means the further loss of lives. The ones at greatest risk are the elderly, women, and children.

A PHYSICAL CRISIS AND KINGDOM OPPORTUNITY

This crisis not only creates largescale suffering, but it also has an impact on what has been an amazing movement of God. In keeping with Cityteam’s mission to transform the lives of families and plant reproductive churches, East Africa is a region where we’ve seen more than 7,122 churches planted, some to the 11th generation over the last 12 years!

HELP BRING A DOUBLE BLESSING

Cityteam International has three strategic priorities:
1. SAVE LIVES
In this life and death situation, the love of God demands a response with emergency food, water, and medicine to keep people alive. Cityteam will also provide medical camps to treat dehydration, worms, coughs, and illnesses. These medical camps will provide a place of healing and lifesaving support for thousands.

2. PRESERVE CHURCH PLANTING MOMENTUM
The affected communities need both humanitarian help and spiritual strength in this time of crisis. Providing emergency supplies in the communities where our churches are planted will enable families to survive and church groups to stay together and continue to multiply.

3. LAY THE FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE CHURCH PLANTING
Providing care in times of crisis lays the foundation for future relationships. And these relationships can open doors to bring the Gospel to communities where the church planters are not welcomed and the Gospel is not wanted. Through the support of Cityteam International, we can empower churches to become a life-saving team for others who are displaced and needy. As families are supported with tangible life-saving services, the Disciple Making Movement – instead of being stalled – could be accelerated!
