Two high-caste girls came to faith along with their parents and other people from their community. The two girls went off to college in another town.
They initially started two Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups among their peers at school, but soon encountered resistance from some of the parents of the other group members. When the parents saw the boys and girls meeting together with Bibles in their hands, they put a stop to the study, telling their children they were forbidden to bring that book into their home.
The two girls met with their mentors, Daniel* and his wife, and told them what had happened. Daniel said: “Why don’t you download the Bible onto your mobile phone?” He made provision for them to get access to the audio and digital Bible. They were able to continue their DBS, without those parents being alarmed.
They chose not to use the audio function. Instead, each group member read softly on their own phone. Then they would discuss quietly together what they read and what it meant to them.
Their two groups have multiplied to nine, with a total of 63 young people studying the Bible using apps on their phones. Many have already turned to the Lord. But, since these young people are still living at home, they are waiting for the right time to be baptized so as not to stir up trouble with their families.
In just over one year, 18 DBS groups began. Eleven have become small churches.
