I’m Hawa, married to Abubakar, and we have two children. We are all from the same nationality.
We’ve been living in the Central African Republic for several years.
We were very fervent in Islam, but my meeting and friendship with Eric’s wife radically changed my life.
Sometimes we would go out into the fields together, and other times under the tree for break time. We would talk about the Word of God and listen to Bible stories, translated into the local language. Each of our meetings was an opportunity for her to present me with the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ, through a Discovery Bible Study (DBS). During a Discovery Bible Study session, she talked to me about the Certainty of Salvation in Jesus, that Jesus is the promised Savior according to Luke 1:26-38 and Luke 2:1-20; unlike Islam, which gives no guarantee of salvation to Muslims. I tried to discuss this very important subject with my husband, but unfortunately, he rebuked me severely. Despite this, I persevered in the DBS with Eric’s wife. My eyes were opened to certain biblical truths, for example, I can have a direct relationship with God, and that salvation is found in Jesus and in no other prophet. Many questions were answered.
Noticing a change of thought, behavior, and actions, my husband ended up divorcing me. I thank God that Eric’s wife and the other brothers and sisters in Christ were always with me during my abandonment. Their compassion and love for me further convinced me to become part of the family of Christ.
It is a privilege for me to be baptized and to follow Jesus. I became a follower of Jesus among my Muslim sisters, because I understood that the challenges of the Great Commission are not reserved for men alone.
Today, with Pastor Eric, we’re training in women’s leadership to work and plant churches among Muslim women.
