There’s a village in South Asia where 150 families live. Two of these families came to faith in Jesus and started a church in their home. One of them had an 8-year-old daughter who went to school. One morning at school, she and another girl got permission to go outside for a bathroom break. There was a pond nearby where they went to wash up. Tragically, the daughter of this believing family drowned in the pond. The other girl returned to class but did not inform anybody at the school about what happened to her classmate. Strangely, the girl was not missed.
Seven hours later, every child reached home, except this girl. At last, she was found at the pond, floating on the surface of the water. The village people reported it to the police station. Policemen came and joined all the villagers who were crowded around the pond. Then they pulled the girl from the water and laid her lifeless body in front of her home.
All the villagers started harassing the family, taunting them, and saying, “It is because you have accepted a strange god that this has happened to your girl.” Meanwhile, the girl’s father had been in a prayer meeting when he heard the news that the girl had gone missing. He arrived in time to witness the villagers’ response.
Hearing all the bad language from the community, the girl’s mother started praying with a loud voice and with tears in her eyes. Holding her daughter, she prayed, asking the Lord to perform a miracle right then. “God, if you are truly the living God,” she prayed, “then raise my daughter! Raise my daughter from the dead and let this entire community witness the miracle. Otherwise, you will be degraded in the village by this entire community.” People laughed at her, saying that she had gone mad.
It was as if the Lord were standing at her side, gently telling her, “Stop crying, because she is not dead…” The father said, “After a few minutes of her mother’s prayer, the dead girl started vomiting water. Gradually she came to life, with the entire community watching. The Lord performed a great miracle right there in front of them. Even policemen gave eyewitness accounts confirming the incident. Many families who witnessed this miracle turned to the Lord.” The amazing news spread to other areas.
