Martyrs Pave the Way

Stories of Transformation

One of New Generations ministry teams in West Africa decided to engage a very difficult region, resistant to the Gospel. There, a few years earlier, six Christians had been brutally murdered. But these martyrs did not work in vain.

Our team discovered a strong need for children to be educated in that community. So, a partnership between the ministry and the community was proposed. They would jointly start a simple primary school with two well-qualified teachers the ministry would provide. The community agreed to pay half of the teachers’ salaries, provide lodging for them, and a building for the school. The one stipulation was that the teachers were not to propagate their faith.

Over the next year, the teachers (who were also veteran church planters) became heroes in the community because of the positive change parents saw in their children. Eventually, they were asked to tell stories about the God of the Bible.

Over the next 15 months, nine churches were planted in the area. Within two years there were more than twenty churches and hundreds of new Christ Followers.
